Compuware Professional Services Builds Application for the Colorado Department of Agriculture That Tracks Disease in Colorado’s Elk Herds
SAN FRANCISCO--February 13, 2002--Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) announced today at the VSLive! 2002 Conference (booth #213) that it has developed an XML Web services solution for the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework. Compuware professional services developed an application for the CDA that collects and distributes information regarding the impact of Chronic Wasting Disease on the elk population in Colorado. Government agencies can easily access the system from any location using a standard Internet browser to track and disseminate status reports as well as exchange information regarding captive elk herds.
“Compuware’s professional services team provided the CDA with an XML Web services solution that significantly changes the way we communicate and distribute information,” said John Picanso, Chief Information Officer, Colorado Department of Agriculture. “Using the Microsoft .NET platform to build our Web service on XML ensures simple integration with our Web site as well as with our enterprise information system and business processes.”
With CDA’s old system, information could not be disseminated without requesting an individual to compile it. With the Web-based service, a typical status report is immediately available, compared to the previously required three-to-six weeks for report development.
“Microsoft has worked very hard to deliver a fully integrated set of tools and the platform for developers to build, deploy and run XML Web services and applications in the programming language they choose,” said Tom Button, vice president for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. “Compuware’s highly skilled staff and expertise developing and managing enterprise applications allow customers to take advantage of the possibilities of XML Web services.”
Colorado was the first state to require mandatory surveillance of domestic elk herds for Chronic Wasting Disease. During the past seven years, elk herders have been required to identify and inventory their herds in Colorado as well as provide mortality results. Using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework, Compuware developed an XML Web services-based application that allows Colorado government agencies to access an online Web portal and input information regarding Chronic Wasting Disease for captive elk herds in Colorado. This provides government agencies real-time access to the data, regardless of the desktop or back-office application being used.
“Application integration is key to the deployment of an organization’s XML Web service,” said Paul Toenjes, Director, Compuware Professional Services Division. “Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework enable the rapid development, simple integration and improved operation of XML Web services and applications, making it easier to create a component and expose it as a Web service. By utilizing the Microsoft .NET platform, Compuware is able to offer its customers the most cost-effective solution to developing and integrating XML Web services.”
